This work combines emotional regulation, embodied practice, self-reflection, and an awareness of the messed-up world to equip you with tools for the journey toward what makes you come alive.
Dream & Scheme Vocational Discernment practices are for people in all life-stages. We create space for folks who are curious, stuck, growing, aching, struggling to find and follow their sense of call in the midst of climate chaos, late stage capitalism, and cultures of domination that seem inescapable.
However you name the sacred in the world, we believe that sacredness is calling you into what is better. Whether it’s God, big love, or something else, we believe that the divine in the world gives us all gifts and purposes — and that we can uncover that sense of purpose (and keep uncovering it, as we live our lives), if we train ourselves to listen. We believe that we can honor ourselves and the next yes we’re called to, and that we must navigate with critical consciousness the web of white supremacy, heteropatriarchy, and extractive capitalism we live in to do things like pay our bills and buy groceries. We believe in community care and interdependence as ways out of what seems inevitable, and that even as we discern vocation we can work for the liberation of all.
Build your toolbox for understanding your today-vocation and discerning into the future by engaging in our offerings below. We’d love to work with you and/or your group - let’s discern together!
Dream & Scheme supports vocational discernment in community. As you explore these formats below, consider what sort of collaboration would work best for you or your group! All collaborations begin with a free 30 min conversation to share information about what you’re looking for and brainstorm possibilities, as well as giving us both time to see if we’re a good fit to work together.
All services are available for a sliding scale fee - reach out to see how we can make this support accessible for you!
Standalone Workshops
Suitable for groups of a variety of sizes, these workshops can kindle deeper reflection, connection, and imagination within your group. Workshops can be adapted for different settings, and all include participatory elements to keep folks engaged.
“The Kingdom of God is like…”: Having a vision of a better future matters. When our imagination feels limited by how our bodies feel or what we notice about the state of the world, returning to this vision helps us return to hope. Using the images of God’s kingdom described in Scripture as a starting point, this interactive workshop invites participants to engage creativity, imagination, and art reflection as a way of envisioning the world we’re called to create together. Interactive art workshop, 45-60min.
"What's the deal with Sabbath?": We know that Jesus rested, and that remembering the Sabbath is one of the ten commandments. But rest isn't just about recovery, or preparing to do more work--it is an act of rebellion, rooting ourselves in our belief that God loves us wholly as we are, and not as a result of what we accomplish or produce. This workshop will invite us to recognize messages we receive about rest and explore ways to disrupt the idea that who we are is solely rooted in what we do. Interactive workshop, 45-60min.
Everything is Vocational Discernment: Not "What do I do with my life?" but "What is next for me on this journey of faith?" Daring to be curious about the next “yes” God is speaking into your life can be a transformative thing. This workshop offers a framework for vocational discernment that holds spaciousness for how our senses of call can shift over time, and a chance to try out a discernment practice in this framework. Reflection & discernment practice, 60-90 min.
These workshops have been developed in collaboration with the Albuquerque Young Adult Volunteer program.
Small Group Series
Working with a small group of folks, and want to explore discernment together? This could be a great option for you! These collaborations most often consist of 3-5 sessions, each 75-90 minutes long, incorporating group centering practices, individual discernment work paired with collective reflection, and community discernment practices. All of this can be adapted to support what your group needs. Gather a group of friends to work together, invite us to work with your year-long volunteer service cohort, host a small group series at your church… we’re adaptable and excited to meet you and your community where you are to support your exploration. This series is available via Zoom or in-person in Tucson.
Alison Wood (they/she), Coordinator - Alison is a facilitator, schemer, and educator rooted in the U.S./Mexico borderlands on unceded Tohono O’odham land colonially called Tucson, Arizona. Outside of Dream & Scheme, they work occasionally as a graduate faculty associate at the Arizona State University School of Social Work. Vocationally, Alison is engaged in education and accompaniment work that unsettles assumptions while holding space for rest and play. Alison built their vocational discernment passion and skills over ten years of work with young adults in year long service corps, elders in mainline Protestant churches, and people of all ages surviving burnout in non-profit agencies. Alison maintains her resilience with haphazard arts and crafts, walks in the desert, and group viewings of trashy television.
Luke Rembold (he/him), Co-Facilitator - Luke Rembold is an educator, youth leader, and advocate for the leadership of young people in our churches and communities. A child of two educators, Luke is passionate about the intersection of education and faith, and fervently believes education has the power to transform our communities and the world. He currently serves as the youth and young adult ministry coordinator for the Presbytery of Santa Fe, coordinating the ABQ site of the Young Adult Volunteer program while building connection and community with the youth of the thirty-eight churches of the presbytery. Luke enjoys time outdoors, whether teaching tennis, cycling, or exploring New Mexico's beautiful landscapes.
